Psychotherapy is a healing and transformative process that takes place in a trusted, professional relationship. There are many ways to conduct therapy, and there are many ways to facilitate safe and effective relationships. Sometimes finding a good match can take some work. My practice, the Growth & Healing Collaborative, takes place through the Integrative Empowerment Group, PLLC. I am fortunate to practice psychotherapy with a group of passionate, open, and empowering practitioners at the Integrative Empowerment Group where being multicultural, feminist, liberatory, and sex-positive is the norm.

Fundamentals of Growth & HealingPsychotherapy can contribute to healing and foster growth of individuals, relationships, and communities. I use multicultural and feminist perspectives, and I believe that people need to be believed, understood, and accepted as we are. From this starting point, a collaborative relationship in which a client makes empowered decisions about change directs the course of psychotherapy. I tend to use cognitive, behavioral, interpersonal, solution-focused, self-compassion, insight-oriented, and acceptance-based interventions tailored to clients’ circumstances.
I have experience working with people who want support or to make changes related to depression and anxiety, trauma- and stress-related concerns, relationship concerns, adjustment, grief and loss, minority stress, and sexual, gender, and other identity-related concerns, including healing from so-called conversion therapy. Passionate about working with LGBTQIA+ clients, I am also Kink-Aware and affirming of the diverse ways people know themselves in relationships and identities, including in consensual non-monogamous and polyamorous relationships. My Ph.D. is in Clinical Psychology from Eastern Michigan University (2009), and I have been a Licensed Psychologist in the state of Michigan since 2011. My multicultural and intersectional perspective grew on internship at Michigan State University’s Multi-Ethnic Counseling Center Alliance, and a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical health psychology shaped my integrative health perspective. In addition to psychotherapy, I work as a college instructor and mentor students to create empowering contexts for growth and learning. Aware of how powerfully well-being is influenced by broader social and legal contexts, I also advocate for policy and cultural change. |
Practical ConsiderationsI currently practice with IEG regularly on Monday and Tuesday afternoons or evenings. Since 2021, I offer sessions virtually and in the IEG Ypsilanti office.
Public health guidance is used to help determine when in-person appointments are available, and screening and distancing protocols are in place. There are weeks when only virtual appointments may be available. In-person appointments take place in our office at 124 Pearl Street, Suite 207, Ypsilanti, MI 48197. This is close to the Ypsi Transit Center. For parking, there are some open/unmarked parking spaces behind the building we can use, but there are no reserved parking spaces specifically for our office. There is paid parking across from the street (off Washington). |
